Interested in a new career? People seek to change careers for many different reasons. Changing careers often sound a big and scary process, and its hugely difficult to know where to start.

Making a career change usually means investing both your time and money. Keep in mind that you don’t need to make a 180 degree turn away from one career and into the next one. Instead, you can take small steps that allow you to move toward something new without losing your past experiences and without jumping into a new career that still isn’t the right fit.

Check out four helpful steps that will help make the start of your career change completely manageable:

1 - Do your research

Go through job boards or LinkedIn groups and spend a few hours analyzing the jobs available in sectors that interest you. You'll discover what they pay, where they're located, and what areas are most in demand.

2 - Reach Out to People

You might already know someone who is working in your preferred career area - reach out to them. Prepare a list of questions that will help you figure out if you really are interested in this kind of job and what skills you need to be successful in it. 3 - Upgrade your skills

After you've identified that new career you'd like to break into, it’s time to start learning everything you can about that new area. Are there any new qualifications you might need? Will you have to study? Look into individual courses you can take to gain specific skills.

4 - Write a Career Change Resume and Cover Letter

When you're ready to start applying for jobs in your new industry, be sure to write a cover letter that reflects your aspirations, as well a resume that is refocus based on your new goals.
